Industrial Water Use
Industry uses
water, as a raw material, for mixing, cooling or plant washdown as well
as for washing and sanitary uses. Water supply and effluent disposal
are not overheads, but are process costs, which you should monitor and
minimise like any other cost.
Water Supply.
Water use is covered by a wide range of legislation, regulations and
bylaws, with legal and financial penalties if you do not comply. The
storage and distribution system within your premises must be suitable
for maintaining the quality of the water supplied from the mains, both
for domestic and industrial uses. Potable and non-potable water must
be separated with no risk of affecting the incoming supply.
Effluent Discharge
Effluent disposal is a major cost to many industries, and difficult
decisions must be taken. For example, should effluent streams be separated
or mixed. Is partial or full treatment before discharge necessary?
Rain water runoff
Rainwater from industrial sites can be a major source of pollution to
surface and ground waters. Runoff from your site can be more polluting
than raw sewage, even if your processes are not particularly hazardous.
Compliance
Assessments should be carried out to ensure regulatory compliance, identify
hazards and minimise risks to your staff, your customers and the public.
We can analyse
water costs, carry out risk assessments and provide the services needed
to optimise water use and maintain environmental and regulatory compliance.
